GREENVILLE, SC – The Florida Everblades posted their second consecutive shutout victory, with a 7-0 victory over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits Sunday afternoon at the Bons Secours Wellness Arena. Goaltender Daniel Altshuller earned the win stopping all 31 shots faced.
Florida grabbed its first goal halfway through the opening frame, when Matt Willows centered a pass from behind the net to Mike Aviani rushing toward the slot. Aviani flexed the puck high into the back of the net over the shoulder of Greenville netminder Allen York.
Aviani struck again later in the second, when he hurled a shot from the slot that was stopped off the pad of York. However, the rebound bounced right back to Aviani between the circles and he delivered a second shot that clipped into the back of the net to put the ‘Blades on top 2-0 after the opening period.
The Everblades exploded for three more goals in the second period. Kevin Lynch delivered a backhanded pass to Justin Agosta in the slot who wristed a shot high into the Greenville net for Florida’s third tally at 5:40 of the middle frame.
Just 26 seconds later, the ‘Blades made it 4-0 on a goal by Matt Willows whose shot from the right wing boards clipped past York. The goal signaled the end of the game for York who exited the game allowing four goals on 18 shots faced. Adam Morrison came into the game in relief of the former Everblade.
It didn’t take long for the ‘Blades to put one past Morrison, as Kevin Lynch scored on a breakaway chance, slipping a shot low under Morrison’s right pad to extend the Florida lead to 5-0.
The Everblades added a sixth tally just ten seconds into the third when Aviani set up a second strike by Willows on a 2-on-1 chance that Willows tucked in behind Morrison for the goal.
Evan Bloodoff later added a power play tally to seal the 7-0 victory for Florida.
Amongst all of the scoring was the solid play of Daniel Altshuller, who earned his second career shutout stopping all 31 shots faced in the game. The shutout win was the second in as many games for the Everblades who recorded a 2-0 win on Friday against the South Carolina Stingrays (Anthony Peters, 22 saves).
Allen York takes the loss allowing four goals on 18 shots, while Morrison allowed three goals on 15 shots faced in a relief effort.
Mike Aviani finished the game with a career best four points (2g, 2a, +4) while Matt Willow posted three points (2g, 1a, +4) in the contest.
The Everblades will now travel to Charleston for a Tuesday night affair with the South Carolina Stingrays beginning at 7:05 p.m.
