“I think it’s nice to have a little playing time under the belt before you get your first start,” Elliott said. “It doesn’t matter how many years you’ve played, the first game of the year you always want to start off on a good note. I think it was good to get in there. Last night was not what we wanted to put on the ice as a team, and I thought the response tonight was really good.”
Kevin Hayes had a goal and two points on the night.

“[Elliott] was good, but I think there were moments we could have done a better job getting to him, getting to the net and being assertive in that area,” Buffalo’s Eric Staal said.
Travis Konecny gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead in the second period.
“I had talked to our goalie coach (Kim Dillabaugh) and he gave me a few tips on what this guy was doing yesterday and some things that might help me out if I get a chance to take a 1-on-1 with him, and it ended up working out,” Konecny said.

The Flyers improved to 3-1-0.
“We didn’t play a perfect game,” Philadelphia head coach Alain Vigneault said “There are some decisions with the puck that we need to make a little bit better. But I thought overall our compete level was very strong tonight. … We had to bounce back from our performance yesterday, and I thought our group showed some good character, and we found a way to win against a good team.”
Jakub Voracek also scored for the Flyers.
Carter Hutton made 19 saves on 20 shots before leaving the game after the second period for injury.
“It was really disappointing in a game the way it was going to lose midway through the game a very strong Carter Hutton,” Buffalo coach Ralph Krueger said.
Jonas Johansson yielded one goal on nine shots.
