The Winnipeg Jets had the unfortunate situation of hooking up with the hott4st team in the NHL Saturday night in the Calgary Flames. Coming into the game in Winnipeg, the Flames were riding an eight-game win streak.
It didn’t help they were facing one of the hottest goalies in the league either in the form of Brian Elliott.
Elliott made 31 saves to get his second straight shutout in a 3-0 win over the Jets.
“I think everybody is approaching it a game at a time and building those two points at a time,” Elliott said. “We have to keep doing the same things. You can’t sit back and look at the little run we’ve been on. You have to look forward to the next game.”
The Flames have been hot but their power play has been anemic since their win streak started but Saturday saw the Flames strike twice for power play goals.
Mikael Backlund, Michael Frolik and Alex Chiasson had the goals for the Flames as they imp[roved to 38-26-4 and tied the Anaheim Ducks for second place in the Pacific Division.
Dougie Hamilton assisted on all three goals for Calgary.
“You know what, Dougie was in a lot of pain and there was a time there we were going to shut him down there in the third,” Flames coach Glen Gulutzan said. “He did a really good job, ended up with three assists and was effective. I thought he did a great job.”

Connor Hellebuyck was strong in the Jets net despite the loss and made 26 saves for Winnipeg.
“Frustrating game,” Winnipeg’s Josh Morrissey said. “I think for us, we had our game right in spurts, but not the full game, and it’s disappointing in a big game like that not to have it be right for the full game.”
The loss dropped the Jets record to 30-33-6 and they are nine points back of a playoff spot.
