Lars Eller was traded to the Colorado Avalanche by the Washington Capitals on Wednesday for a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
The 33-year-old forward is in the final season of a five-year contract he signed with the Capitals on Feb. 10, 2018, and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Eller has 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 60 games this season.
Selected by the St. Louis Blues in the first round (No. 13) of the 2007 NHL Draft, Eller has 364 points (160 goals, 204 assists) in 930 regular-season games with the Capitals, Montreal Canadiens and Blues, and 49 points (15 goals, 34 assists) in 96 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Eller scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal for the Capitals against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of the 2018 Final.
The Avalanche (34-19-5), who have won six straight games, are third in the Central Division, one point behind the Minnesota Wild and two points behind the Dallas Stars.
Colorado acquired defenseman Jack Johnson from the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday for defenseman Andreas Englund.
The Capitals (29-27-6) are five points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second wild card into the playoffs from the Eastern Conference. On Tuesday, they traded forward Marcus Johansson to the Minnesota Wild, and defenseman Erik Gustafsson to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Rasmus Sandin.
Washington traded defenseman Dmitry Orlov and forward Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins in a three-team trade on Feb. 23.
