Elite League Scottish round-up: Late Connolly goal secures victory for Glasgow Clan

It was a quiet weekend for the three Scottish clubs in terms of Elite League (EIHL) games due to Challenge Cup fixtures.

The newly-named Glasgow Clan kicked off their EIHL campaign with an exciting 4-2 win at Manchester Storm on Saturday.

After some good performances in pre-season, coach Pete Russell was hoping for a repeat in his first competitive game. His players delivered exactly that.

There was little to choose between the two sides in the first period, but Clan got on the scoresheet 48 seconds before the break with a powerplay goal from Travis Ehrhardt.

The middle session continued in the same manner, but Clan gradually piled the pressure on.

A skirmish between Josh Gratton and Linden Springer turned the heat up even further as both sides looked to gain an advantage.

Things got even better for the away side as fan favourite Scott Pit put them two in front just 30 seconds later.

Storm got up and running soon after through Marcus Basara, and the comeback was complete midway into the second with a superb finish from Dane Byers.

With 10 minutes remaining Clan took control and went 3-2 up thanks to another from Pitt.

The win was secured near the end when Brendan Connolly slid the puck into an empty net to secure two points for the Clan.

But what did the supporters think of the performance? Here’s some thoughts from social media.
