Elite League Scottish round-up: Fife Flyers recover from early setback to beat Belfast Giants

SCOTLAND, UK – With the season nearly in full swing, here’s this week’s Scottish EIHL round-up.

FIFE FLYERS 4 BELFAST GIANTS 2

The Flyers recorded an important home win over the Giants. The east coast side came from behind to gain the two points after Jonathan Ferland had given Belfast an early lead. It was a poor start to the game, with the Flyers looking tired and the visitors missing numerous chances on goal.

The pace quickened in the third period when the home side scored a quick-fire double to go in front. The game was seemingly settled when Brett Bulmer scored twice to secure the win. Giants bagged a consolation, but it was too little too late, and Fife earned the win.

Here’s some thoughts from Flyers supporters.

NOTTINGHAM PANTHERS 2 GLASGOW CLAN 5

The Clan secured their second EIHL win in a row on Saturday with an excellent away success in Nottingham. The Purple Army started on the front foot and went in front early with a goal from Vaclav Stupka.

The Panthers levelled things towards the end of first through Olsen. The Glasgow side took command of the game and found themselves 3-1 up after the middle period with goals from Gratton and Conolly.

It got even harder for the home team when Pitt got on the scoresheet to make it four. Guptil pulled one back for the Panthers, but Gratton scored his second into an empty net to seal the points for the Clan.

Here’s some views from Clan fans.

DUNDEE STARS 1 MANCHESTER STORM 2 (SO)

Luke Moffatt kept his cool to take home the points for Manchester Storm after a 2-1 shoot-out win away to Dundee Stars. In a fairly even first, it was Storm who got the breakthrough after 15 minutes when Linsmayer took advantage of Balmer’s shot.

Both sides made a handful of chances in the middle session, but none were put away, so Manchester went into the last period one up.

Drydn Dow equalised for the home side to set up an intriguing end to the game. Neither side could get the winner, so a shoot-out settled it for Ryan Finnerty’s side.

GUILDFORD FLAMES 2 GLASGOW CLAN 0

Guildford got their second win of the weekend after a hard-fought 2-0 home win over the Clan. Two powerplay goals earned the victory, with the first coming through Calle Ackered to give the Flames a 1-0 lead going into the second period.

Jesse Craige made it 2-0 while the home team had a man advantage. Pete Russell’s Clan pushed to get themselves back in the game, but it wasn’t to be and Guildford hung on for their second win in three league games so far.
