EIHL Weekend starts with two games on Friday night

The weekend action gets underway on Friday night with two games across the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Sheffield Steelers begin a Scottish triple-header with a visit to Glasgow Clan. The Steelers slipped to fourth in the standings on Wednesday night following Belfast’s win in Dundee and sit five points off the top with a game in hand. Clan, meanwhile, are enduring a difficult spell, having lost four games in a row while also dealing with a growing injury list.

Coventry Blaze welcome Dundee Stars to the Skydome in the other Friday night fixture. The Blaze come into the game off the back of a four-point weekend and currently sit eight points ahead of the Stars, although Dundee have played three fewer games. Coventry’s win over Belfast last weekend was their first home victory since November. Dundee picked up a win over Guildford last weekend but were beaten by Belfast on Wednesday, and they have managed just two road wins from ten games so far this season.

Historically, 9 January has seen 20 games played. Two of those needed overtime, both involving Edinburgh, while a further three ended in shutout wins.

Clan’s home win over Sheffield earlier this season was just their 10th in 37 league meetings at Braehead Arena.

Coventry have won almost 80% of home games against Dundee in the league, with 30 wins in 38 games.
