EIHL Wednesday: Clan and Panthers face elimination

It is Wednesday night and it is the Challenge Cup Elimination Game.

Glasgow Clan host Nottingham Panthers with the final place in the Challenge Cup Semi-Finals on the line. The winner will advance, while the loser will be eliminated from the competition. There are no second legs or replays, so a result must be decided on the night.

Clan and Panthers have met twice already this season. In Nottingham, the Panthers claimed a 7-1 win, while they followed that up with a narrower 4-3 victory in Braehead, giving them the edge in the head-to-head so far.

Braehead Arena has been a strong venue for Clan in the Challenge Cup. They lost just once in six home games during the group stage. Nottingham, however, were effective on the road, recording four of their six group-stage wins away from home.

What if the game is tied after 60 minutes?

  • If the scores are level at the end of regulation, a 10-minute overtime period will be played at 3-on-3.
  • Should the game still be tied after overtime, it will be decided by a standard EIHL shootout. Each team will take five shots, followed by sudden death if required.

Remote Situation Room in operation

  • All video reviews, either referee-led or Coach’s Challenge, will be reviewed remotely in the EIHL Situation Room. This also includes reviews for major penalties.
  • Coaches are also able to challenge for offside and a ‘missed game stoppage’ in addition to goalie interference. The Situation Room can only make a judgement based on the video angles provided and does not have access to any extra feeds.
  • If communication with the Situation Room fails, the game officials will make the final decisio
