Friday night hockey this week comes from Manchester, as the Guildford Flames head to the Storm Shelter to take on Manchester Storm.

While the Flames currently sit top of the league standings and Storm third, tonight’s matchup is a Challenge Cup fixture – and both teams find themselves in unusual positions within the group after slow starts to their Cup campaigns.
Storm can still reach the next round, but their path is narrow: they would likely need to win all three of their remaining games and rely on favourable results elsewhere. The Flames, meanwhile, are already out of contention, as they would lose out on the regulation-wins tiebreak should they finish level on points with Nottingham Panthers.
Tonight marks the first of back-to-back meetings between the teams, with the return game set for Saturday night in Guildford.
The teams have only met once in Cup action in Altrincham, with Storm winning 5-1.
