Edinburgh – winter Wonderland

EDINBURGH, UK – A very good Holiday season to all hockey fans from the frozen north, or Scotland, as we call it. A few of the games have been played with the ice outside as well as inside and Belfast Giants having to get home through freezing fog last weekend. First the Medical Report:-  -Doug Christiansen- after his bad knee injury Doug is recuperating and may be fit January into February but there are doubts whether he will ice again this season. -Martin Cingel, (knee) has started warming up the past few games and appears to be close to a return. -Darius Pliskauskas, (broken finger) was due back around the turn of the Year but there is no confirmation on that. -Michael Beynon, (concussion and/or knee) hopes to be back this weekend. -Jordan Steel (groin strain) was seen limping to the stovie queue last weekend. Meanwhile the Caps medical staff has all asked for a break from work over the holidays! Most hockey teams have to contend with a few injuries over the season but Caps have had a franchise breaking home run of 4 straight wins that Belfast brought to an end with a 2-1 win last Sunday. A game that Giants had the better of for about 80% of the game but Caps nearly took it to overtime. Giants took their foot off the pedal and nearly paid the price. In this game Sean McMorrow got a 10 minute penalty for verbal abuse of the officials (former Murrayfield Racer Moray Hanson) and then proceeded to have 10 minutes of banter with the Caps fans from the bench. He isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but he is an entertainer. Chris Allen who left Caps last month when they brought in Dan Welch and Marc Lefebvre has just joined Coventry Blaze and so the hockey Merry-Go-Round in the U.K. continues. Ex Steeler Ryan Finnerty has gone to Cardiff Devils also this week, as broken by Prohockeynews recently. Caps have their annual “Skate with the Capitals” event on the 29th December when the Newcastle Vipers come to the Capitals. During the afternoon spectators can skate with the players and try some basic hockey skills on the ice. Rumours that Andrew Sharp will drop the gloves with anyone he doesn’t like the look of are unsubstantiated! The Capitals will play a league match in their pyjamas on Sunday against

Newcastle Vipers to demonstrate their support for the new pyjamas campaign for the new Sick Kids hospital. The Capitals will wear the pyjamas strip just once. 10% of the ticket sales for this game will be donated to the new pyjamas campaign. The Capitals’ youth development team will also be fund-raising for the new pyjamas campaign as they tour the venue with their mascot, “Paws”. The Capitals intend to sign their strips after the match and auction them to fans to raise even more funds for the campaign. A great gesture by the club at this time of year. Happy holidays and enjoy your Hockey. Remember it is slippy out there. Jim Sneddon Contact the author Jim.Sneddon@Prohockeynews.com
