LOVELAND, Colo. – With the Americans’ Riley Gill posting a shutout against the Eagles in Game five the two teams will resume the series for a Game six in Allen, Texas later this week.
Chad Costello, the league’s leading scorer in the regular season, got things started in the first period for Allen scoring on a feed from Eric Roy to beat Lukas Hafner at 2:27 of the first period.
Colorado out-shot Allen 8-6 in the opening period and each team was charged with one penalty; Colorado’s Harrison for boarding at 1:51 and Gregor Hanson was called for interference at 4:55.
The middle frame saw no scoring but not for lack of chances as the Eagles put 12 shots
on goal to nine shots for Allen.
Only one penalty was assessed when Allen’s Chouinard was tagged for a hooking minor at 10:27.
Third period scoring consisted of three goals from the Americans with Tyler Barnes starting it off, capitalizing on a turnover at the blue line at 2:33 to extend the Americans lead to 2-0.
Less than a minute passed before Gary Steffes knocked in a rebound that beat Hafner at 3:31 to make it 3-0.
A slashing penalty on Eric Roy gave Colorado a late power play opportunity. Spencer Asuchak finished off the scoring at 16:39 with Hafner pulled for an extra attacker for the final score of 4-0 in favor of the Americans
Hafner took the loss stopping 21 of 25 shots.
Riley Gill stopped all 35 shots he faced for the win.
Colorado travels to Allen, Texas for Game six to be played on Wednesday May, 9th.
