LOVELAND, Colo – After two weeks of hard work in training camp and two preseason victories against the Rapid City Rush, the Colorado Eagles got off to a slow start to the 2015-2016 ECHL hockey season.
Friday night’s game was a spirited affair with the Eagles fighting  back from a 3 to 1 deficit in the third period to score two goals, including the game-tying tally from Kyle Ostrow with 26-seconds left to force overtime and insure a point in the standings. Josh Macdonald won the game for the Grizzlies on a break away at 4:12 of the five minute overtime period.
The second game saw four goals scored by Utah’s Barry Almeida while the Eagles could
only manage to score twice in the loss on Saturday night.
A look at the 2015-2016 Colorado Eagles’ team makeup shows a good mix of size and strength along with speed and skill that should bode well for the team despite the inauspicious start.
With ten players returning from the previous season and three skaters with experience playing in the Eagles organization invited back, only six new signees were added to fill out the opening night roster:
Goalie, Kris Lazaruk, who’s pedigree includes a 2015  CIS Goaltender of the Year award  for his skills between the pipes for the University of Calgary Dinos, joins Jacob DeSerres, the Philadelphia Flyers draft pick who joined the Eagles in net for two games late last season.
Other new faces for the Eagles include rookie forward Patrick D’Amico from the Regina Pats of the WHL and defenceman, Giffen Nyren who played 29 games with the Utah Grizzlies in the 2010-2011 season before spending the last two seasons with The University of Calgary.
Drayson Bowman, brother of Colorado defensman, Colin Bowman, joined the Eagles after seven years of pro experience including parts of six seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes and time with the Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs last season. This is the first time the brothers have played on the same team together.
Former Denver University defenseman and team captain, Adrian Veideman, has spent the last seven seasons playing in Europe. His return to North America to play with the Eagles continues the tradition of DU alumni on the team.
Another rookie forward joining the Eagles for the 2015-2016 campaign is native Minnesotan and University of Minnesota graduate, Christian Isackson.
Next up for the Eagles is the reining ECHL Kelly Cup Champion, Â Allen Americans, who are making a quick one game trip to the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland on Wednesday Oct. 21. Game time is 7:05
