LOVELAND, Colo. – A three-goal third period lifted the Colorado Eagles over the Allen Americans 3-1 at the Budweiser Events Center Saturday. Forwards Sean Ringrose and Kyle Kraemer each netted a goal and an assist in Colorado’s sixth straight victory. Goaltender Clarke Saunders was outstanding in net, stopping 27 of Allen’s 28 shots in the win.
After two scoreless periods, the Eagles broke through early in the third as Ringrose netted his second goal of the season when he tipped in a shot from Kyle Ostrow to give Colorado a 1-0 lead just 25 seconds into the final frame.
Minutes later, Allen tied the game at 1-1 when forward Casey Pierro- Zabotel scored a power-play goal from the between the circles with 14:54remaining in the game.
The Eagles regained the lead at the 12:49 mark of the third when Kraemer took a centering pass from Ringrose and scored from the low-slot to give Colorado a 2-1 lead.
The Americans pulled goaltender Riley Gill in favor of the extra skater and Eagles forward Johnny Lazo capitalized. Lazo chased down the puck to score an empty-netter to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead with 47 seconds remaining in the game. The Eagles would hold on for the 3-1 win.
Colorado is back on the ice Sunday afternoon when the Fort Wayne Komets return to the Budweiser Events Center. Puck drop is at 3:05 MST.
