Eagles grab 2-1 series lead with strong offensive performance

LOVELAND, Colo. – A balanced attack including eight different skaters collecting points was key to Colorado’s 4 to 2 victory in game three of Wednesday night’s  Kelly Cup contest between The Colorado Eagles and Idaho Steelheads.

Shawn St-Amant hammered home the game’s first goal at 10:55 of the opening period on an Alex Belzile pass from behind the net for an early 1 to 0 lead for Colorado.

Less than two minutes later Jefferson Dahl scored a power play goal with assists going to Rob Linsmayer and Joes Faust to tie the game at 1 each.

With the Darryl Bootland called for interference on Idaho Goalie Landon Bow, Casey Pierro-Zabatel converted a cross ice pass from Ryan Harrison for a short handed goal to regain the Eagles one goal lead.

Julien Nantel pushed the lead to 3 to 1 at 1:55 of the second frame on a pretty passing play from Sean Zimmerman and Johnny Lazo.

Idaho answered back three minutes later with the Eagle’s Matt Garbowsky iin the penalty box Kellan Lain snapped a shot over Lukas Haftner’s left shoulder for the Steelheads second  a power play goal of the night.

With .8 seconds left on the clock in the middle period Alex Belzile regained the two goal lead on a onetimer off a feed from Matt Register for via Jake Marto.

Colorado’s 4 to 2 lead held up through the remaining 20 minutes with no goals scored and only the Pierro-Zabatel cross checking minor penalty called against either team.

Lukas Haftner gets the win stopping 19 of 21 shots for Colorado while Landon Bow took the loss stopping 36 of the 40 shots allowed by Idaho.

Special teams were a factor in the game’s outcome with three power play goals and one shorthanded goal of the six total goals scored.

The next game between these two teams will be played at the Century Tel Arena in Boise, Idaho on Friday April, 21. Gametime is 7:10 P.M. local time
