LOVELAND, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles beat the Idaho Steelheads 5-4 in overtime Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Jake Marto scored the game-winner and Kyle Kraemer scored two goals in his return to the Eagles.
Colorado got on the board first when Christian Isackson notched a goal on the backhand to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 4:05 mark of the first period.
Brandon Magee scored on the man-advantage with 9:54 to play in the first period after a rebound bounced to his stick in the circle. Just three minutes later, Colorado answered on the power play, as Kraemer scored his first goal back in an Eagles uniform from the top of the circle at the 13:41 mark to give Colorado a 2-1 lead.
After a battle in front of the net, Idaho would again tie the game at two with a goal from Rob Linsmayer from the low slot. Eagles’ goaltender Jacob Deserres left the game with an apparent injury and Kris Lazaruk took over in net after the play.
At the 7:06 mark of the second period, Kraemer got his second goal of the night, scoring a shorthanded goal on a 2-on-1 breakaway to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead.
With just six seconds to play in the second period Idaho tied the game. Colton Beck scored over the right shoulder of Lazaruk to even the score at 3-3.
The Steelheads took a 4-3 lead with 13:12 to play in the second period, as Taylor Peters scored from in front of the net to give Idaho the advantage.
Jesse Mychan notched his league-leading 10th goal of the season with 7:58 to play in the third period, as the puck bounced up and over the pads of Idaho goaltender Maxime Legace. Mychan’s goal would force overtime for the second time in two games.
Just 43 seconds into overtime Jake Marto scored a breakaway goal off a stretch pass from defenseman Collin Bowman to give the Eagles a 5-4 win.
The Eagles and Steelheads faceoff in the final game of the three-game series tomorrow night at the Budweiser Events Center. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM.
