RAPID CITY, S.D. – With Allen winning earlier in the evening any chance of Colorado moving up in the standings in the Mountain Division was no longer in play even before the end of the contest between the Eagles and Rush.
Game one of the end of season series between the Colorado Eagles and the Rapid City Rush would prove to be an entertaining match up of division foes with the victory going to the home town Rush by a score of 4 to 2.
Scoring the games opening goal was Colorado’s Matt Brown off an Adam Morrison rebound. Brown’s tally was the only goal scored in the first period despite the Eagles outshooting the Rush 14 to 8.
In period two the Rush scored early and late to tie the game and take the lead after two periods. Early In the second frame at 3:31 the home team scored the tying goal courtesy Rapid City’s Ryan Misiak and late at 16:57 Geroge Fortman put the Rush ahead 2 to 1 despite the Eagles again leading in shots 13 to 8.
Eagles All Star MVP Matt Garbowsky knotted the score at 2 each halfway through the third period but with less than three minutes left in regulation Fortman’s second goal beat Eagles goalie Lukas Haftner to regain the one goal advantage.
Seven seconds later Ryan Walters upped the lead to 4 to 2 with the visiting Eagles unable to score even with the goalie pulled for the extra man advantage.
Rapid City netminder Adam Morrison got the win stopping 36 of 38 shots from the Eagles
while Lukas Haftner took the loss stopping 22 of 26 shots by the home team.
The Eagles and Rush will close out the 2016-2017 regular season with the rematch scheduled for 7:05 P.M. April 8th 2017 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
