Dundas gain ground on Hamilton

DUNDAS—It was a great night for both the Dundas Real McCoys and Margaret’s Place Hospice at St. Joseph’s Villa last Friday night when the McCoys downed the Whitby Dunlops 9-4 in Allan Cup hockey action in the JL Grightmire Arena.

The victory moved the McCoys to within five points of the league leading Hamilton Steelhawks, while Margaret’s Place was on the receiving of a portion of every ticket sold that night.

“Our guys came to play on Friday, and put in a full 60-minute effort. It was a very good effort all the way around because Whitby is always tough to play against,” said McCoys President and General Manager, Don Robertson.  “This Friday, we need to find a way to get past Hamilton.  They seem to have our number this year.  This will be our last chance to beat them before the New Year.”

Friday (December 20th), the McCoys will go head-to-head with Steelhawks at 7:30 p.m. in the Grightmire Arena, as they head into the Christmas break after which they will prepare for their run to the Allan Cup Tournament in April.

Friday’s contest will be the McCoys annual “Pink in the Rink” Teddy Bear Toss Night.  Fans will also be able to buy the sweaters off the backs of the players.

All fans, who attend the game are encouraged to bring a new stuffed toy, and make a “Food Share” donation in the barrels in the arena lobby.  The barrels will be in place until Christmas.

Kevin Harvey (27) celebrates as Brad Bonello (17) swoops past the Whitby Dunlops net after scoring one of his three goals in a 9-4 Dundas Real McCoys Allan Cup Hockey victory.

Bonello paced the Dundas attack with a five-point night scoring three goals and adding two assists.  In addition, the club got solid three-point efforts from Mackenzie Wood (two goals and one assist), Phil Brewer (two goals and one assist), and Cam Watson (one goal and two assists).

Dan LaPointe added a goal and an assist, while Simon Mangos set up two scoring plays. Goalkeeper Mike Mole not only earned the victory, he set up the third goal of the game by Bonello.

For Whitby, Darren Doherty, William Jones, Brett McConnachie, and Adam Vacado got single goals.  Tyler Melancon set up two of the Dollops goals.
