In St Paul, the Minnesota Wild let a lead evaporate on them, but Matt Dumba potted the game-winner with 0.3 seconds left in extra time to down the Los Angeles Kings, 4-3, on Saturday night.
“Everybody’s chipping in,” the Wild’s Kevin Fiala said. “Six-game winning streak, so it’s awesome. It’s been awesome. It’s been fun being around the rink and everybody’s done a great job. All the lines are playing great, I feel like, all the defensemen, the goalies are awesome. Everybody’s very happy, so we just have to keep rolling.”
Kaapo Kahkonen made 25 saves to get the win, his fifth straight victory.
“I had no clue how much time was on the clock,” Dumba said. “I knew it was winding down. I think I saw like 24 seconds or something when we were down in our zone. I knew it was getting down there, but I had no real clue. Yeah, then you get swarmed by the fellas. That’s a feeling that if anyone gets to experience [it], it’s one of the best.”
The Wild improved to 12-6-0.
Minnesota let a three-goal lead get away.
Joel Eriksson Ek, Nico Sturm (in the first period) and Kirill Kaprizov (second period) struck for the Wild in regulation.
The Kings started their rally in the middle frame with two goals from Drew Doughty and Austin Wagner.
“We were disappointed we got into that hole again, but the team stuck with it and clawed their way back in right to the last second,” Kings head coach Todd McLellan said after Los Angeles was swept in the back-to-back set, losing 3-1 here Friday. “It’s a good sign for our group. It’s not a good sign that we’re falling behind right now. We’ve got some things ahead of us that we have to work on.
“In any case, we probably earned a point tonight and lost two, so [we] got what we likely deserve.”
With less than three minutes left in regulation, Adrian Kempe scored for LA to force the extra session.
“I think we all knew that we had to be better than we were in the first period,” Kempe said.
LA dropped to 9-7-4.
“We felt we had good enough chances to win the game,” Kempe said. “Obviously it still [stinks] that we lost, and I think we took over in the second and the third period and they had some bounces going their way. I think it [stinks] for us, but to get one point is all right.”
Calvin Petersen made 38 saves in the hard luck loss.
