Duclair’s OT goal lifts Panthers over Carolina

In Raleigh, Anthony Duclair hit for the game-winner on Saturday to give the Florida Panthers a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes.

Duclair had two goals on the night, the winner blunting a Canes rally in the third period to force the extra session.

Jonathan Huberdeau assisted on the winner.

“‘Huby’ is such a special player,” Duclair said. “He’s one of the best playmakers in the League, the best that I’ve ever played with. Any time I get the puck, I try to get it in his hands and try to get open because it’s coming right back.”

Carter Verhaeghe also hit for a pair of goals for the Panthers.

“Every line brought something,” Panthers head coach Andrew Brunette said. “We had no passengers tonight. I thought everybody came ready to play hard.”

Florida improved to 23-7-5.

“I think tonight we kind of grinded it out,” Verhaeghe said. “We got off to a good start and just kept rolling.”

Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves in the Panthers win.

“When he gets flying like he did tonight, it’s real dangerous,” Duclair said. “He’s real hard to contain. When he uses his shot too, he’s the full package.”

Teuvo Teravainen, Brady Skjei and Seth Jarvis were the Canes goal scorers.

“It was tough to find a handful of guys you could say, ‘Wow, they’re on their game tonight,'” Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “When you’re playing a team like that and you’re not sharp, it’s going to be tough. We can’t spot teams periods where we’re not very good. That’s not going to work.”

The Hurricanes dropped to 24-7-2.

Alex Lyon made 32 saves in the Canes loss.

“He’d probably like to have the first one back, but then he dug in and made some real big saves that allowed us to at least get back in the game,” Brind’Amour said. “He was good.”
