Ducks win up and down game, 6-5, over Devils

In a messy, disorganized game in Anaheim, the Ducks found a way to a 6-5 win over the New Jersey Devils after the skills competition.

Pontus Aberg, iJakob Silfverberg, Kiefer Sherwood, Ondrej Kase, and Brandon Montour scored for the Ducks in regulation.

Three of the Ducks’ goal were classed as “own goals” going in off Devils’ bodies or sticks.

The Ducks improved to 16-11-5.

“When you get a few of those bounces, it’s big. We didn’t get any in the first two months of the season. It’s nice to get a couple tonight,” Ryan Getzlaf (three assists) said.

Ryan Miller got the start for the Ducks but left the game in the third period with an injury after surrendering four goals and making 23 saves.

John Gibson made seven saves in relief to get the win.

“It was a bizarre game,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. “It was one of those games that seemed like the last shot would win it.”

Kyle Palmieri struck twice for the Devils and Marcus Johansson, Brett Seney and Damon Severson added single markers for the Devils.

“We got a little bit lucky getting goals off their players but we stuck to it,” Aberg said.

New Jersey dropped to 10-12-6.

Cory Schneider made six of his 32 savesin the loss.

“It was the first time in my experience where you had three [own goals] that went in. Something gets deflected in and hits someone else and goes in. Those were a little bit odd tonight,” Devils head coach John Hynes said.
