The Arizona Coyotes entered their game with the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday with a nearly new lineup but the same result was seen in the end; the Coyotes lost for the 10th straight time, regulation.
Frederik Andersen got the 4-1 win, his 30th win of the season and 50th of his brief NHL career in 68 starts.
“You keep adding one every time,” Andersen said. “It’s a nice number. You have to have 50 [wins] before you can get to 51.”
The win reflects not only on Andersen’s abilities but the team in front of him.
“I don’t care who you are and what league you’re in, when you win 50 games out of 68 starts your team has pretty good confidence you’re going to stop the puck and give them a chance to win,” Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. “He’s done that in almost every game and he does it with a lot of anonymity. So that’s really good on him.”
Jakob Silfverberg, Andrew Cogliano (two goals) and Ryan Kesler scored for the Ducks.
“We had two pretty goals,” Silverberg said. “The first one by [Kessler] was great. I told him ‘That must be one of your best ones. My goal was a lucky bounce, the puck came straight at me and it all happened pretty quick, just instinct. Just catch it in the air, put it down and pretty much an empty net.”
But Silverberg’s goal is the one to be viewed over and over.
“There was a lot of try in everybody,” Arizona coach David Tippett said. “I still think we need a good practice together. Not very often do you have this many new players jump into your lineup.
“There was lots of talking, lots of teaching and lots of preparation that you normally wouldn’t do midseason like this. But all the guys jumped in there and gave it a good try.”
Mike Smith took the loss, his 31st of a very long season.
