In Anaheim, Brock Nelson hit for a double on Wednesday, and the New York Islanders downed the Ducks, 6-3.
Kyle Palmieri had a goal and four points in the win.
“Feels nice just to do it,” said Palmieri. “Our line stepped up and was able to make a positive contribution.”
Ilya Sorokin was in net for the Isles for the second straight night, losing to the Los Angeles Kings, 5-2, on Tuesday. He made 20 saves in the win Wednesday night.
“Last night’s game wasn’t too demanding for him,” New York coach Lane Lambert said of Sorokin. “We felt that he could go again tonight. He’s played well lately, so we put him back in.”
The Islanders improved to 35-27-8.
In the first period, the Ducks took a 1-0 lead on a marker from Max Jones.
Palmieri tied it 1-1, before Anaheim reclaimed the lead, 2-1, on Kevin Shattenkirk‘s first of two goals on the night to send the game to the middle frame with Anaheim up.
Hudson Fasching and Nelson scored in the second stanza to give the Islanders a 3-2 lead.
Pierre Engvall scored in the third to expand the lead to 4-2.
“[Engvall] is fitting in well with us,” Palmieri said. “It’s clear he’s working hard.”
Nelson scored again, and Zach Parise added a single marker for a 6-2 lead.
“I thought our line (with Parise and Palmieri) did a lot of good things,” Nelson said. “Probably the best thing for us was to get right back at it (after getting routed by Los Angeles on Tuesday). These two points are huge for us.”
Shattenkirk added a late power play goal for the 6-3 final.
The Ducks dropped to 22-36-10 with their second regulation loss in 10 games, 5-2-3.
“We’ve taken some really great strides here, but tonight we took a step backwards,” Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said. “We just couldn’t come out of it. We’re going to have to get back to the game we were playing.”
John Gibson made 27 saves in the Anaheim loss.
