Ducks swamp Sharks

In San Jose, The Anaheim Ducks’ John Gibson made 34 saves for a 5-1 win over teh Sharks on Tuesday night.

“It was just a great team effort, system and individual,” Nicolas Deslauriers  said. “I think everybody brought their working boots.”

David Backes and Deslauriers had a goal and two points apiece in the win.

Patrick Marleau (power play) was the Sharks lone goal scorer, he cut a Ducks’ 2-0 lead in half in the second period.

“For whatever reason, we weren’t ready,” Sharkshead  coach Bob Boughner said. “They started on time, we didn’t. They had their legs, we didn’t.”

San Jose dropped to 17-17-4.

Adam Henrique staked the Ducks to a 1-0 lead in the first period, Max Comtois pushed the lead to 2-0 in the second period.

“There’s been times this season where you feel confident going into the game and it doesn’t go your way,” Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins said. “And there’s been times when you don’t feel great about games, and you play very well.”

The Ducks moved their record to 12-21-7.

Isac Lundestrom made it 3-1 Anaheim after Marleau had scored.

Troy Terry also scored for the Ducks.

Backes’ goal was en empty-netter just past the midway point of the third period.

“It’s fun to see that, even if he’s out of the lineup, when he comes back in, he still has the jump,” Deslauriers said. “I’m really happy that he had that two-point game.”

Martin Jones made 29 saves in the loss.

“Jones played well and we didn’t give him any support,” Boughner said. “We got away with sloppy play last game [a 3-2 win at the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday) and tonight, we didn’t get away with it.”
