In Anaheim Thursday night, the Ducks opened their series with the Calgary Flames in convincing fashion, winning 6-1.
Corey Perry scored twice and added two assists and Ryan Getzlaf had four points with a goal and three assists.
“I felt like our preparation paid off,” Getzlaf said. “We came out playing, skated well. And we definitely executed our game plan for the most part.”
Anaheim built a 6-0 lead before the Flames were able to get on the board.
“I thought we had a few great days of practices,” Perry said. “We worked hard. We did all the right things. We got prepared. I thought the guys came out and played well in that first period. It could have [gone] either way. But we got that goal to get us going and it definitely paid off.”
The Ducks scored twice in each period and really never were challenged by the Flames.
“I thought we had a few great days of practices,” Perry said. “We worked hard. We did all the right things. We got prepared. I thought the guys came out and played well in that first period. It could have [gone] either way. But we got that goal to get us going and it definitely paid off.”
Matt Beleskey, Patrick Maroon and Emerson Etem also scored for the Ducks who chased Jonas Hiller from the Flames net in the second period.
“You kind of have to check it off and look forward and kind of learn from it,” Hiller said. “I think everybody in here knows [that]. Nobody was happy with their game, so everybody has to step it up. Normally, we’re the team that outworks the opponent. But I think we got outworked, and that way, it’s tough to win.”
Sam Bennett scored the lone goal for the Flames long after the decision was called; he scored midway through the third.
Frederik Andersen had 23 saves in the win.
