Wednesday night in Anaheim saw the Ducks build a 2-0 lead on goals from Rickard Rakell and Ryan Getzlaf and then helped off the surging St Louis Blues for a 2-1 win.
The win, coupled with a loss by the Calgary Flames to the Boston Bruins, gave the
Ducks a two-point cushion for second place in the Pacific Division.
“Points are points right now,” Getzlaf said. “We’re in a dogfight here, trying to finish as high as we can and make sure we get home-ice advantage in the first round, at least.”
For the Blues, the loss kept them just four points clear of the Los Angeles Kings for the second wild card spot.
Ivan Barbashev scored the only goals for the Blues midway through the final frame
“The push came too late,” Blues head coach Mike Yeo said.
The loss dropped the Blues record to 36-28-5.
Getzlaf scored shorthanded in the second to give the Ducks their 2-0 lead.
“Not only did we not generate momentum and get enough attempts to the net, but we also gave them a shorthanded goal,” Yeo said. “Obviously, that was a big difference in the game there.”
Jonathan Bernier made 26 saves to get the win for the Ducks who improved to 37-23-10.

Jake Allen took the loss on 20 saves.
“We didn’t start the game great. We started playing with 10 minutes left in the game. That’s why we lost,” Barbashev said.
