In Edmonton, the Oilers outshot the Anaheim Ducks, 23-2 in the third period.
One of those two shots was from John Klingberg at 6″08 of the third to snap a 3-3 tie and send the Ducks to a 4-3 win.
Lukas Dostal made 46 saves in the Anaheim win.
“It’s such a cool moment, getting a ‘W’ in this building, playing against [Connor] McDavid, [Leon] Draisaitl and those guys,” Dostal said. “I’m just so happy for the boys that we were able to get a ‘W’.”
The Ducks improved to 9-20-3.
“We got rewarded last game and you build confidence from that,” Klingberg said. “Just came in with the same kind of mindset today and, obviously, when you get a few good penalty kills to start the game, that helps a lot too with playing good defensively.”
The Oilers took a 1-0 lead in the first on a goal from Darnell Nurse.
“We poured 49 shots on net,” Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. “I thought their goaltender played pretty well, and I thought we can do a better job on the goals against.”
Anaheim replied with a marker from Sam Carrickto knot it at 1-1.
“It was a great play by [forward Jayson Megna] first to get the puck to McTavish in the middle and then he did his magic,” Carrick said. “All I had to do was go to the backdoor and get the tap-in.”
Anaheim took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Cam Fowler at 17:19 of the first.
Edmonton dropped to 17-14-1.
Ryan Strome scored in the second period to get the Ducks a 3-1 advantage.
“You don’t get a breakaway at that much distance that often,” Strome said. “I think my last two I’ve missed, so nice to finally bury one.”
With under 20 seconds left in the middle frame, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins got one back for the Oilers to make it 3-2, on the power play.
Connor McDavid tied the game, 3-3, at 2:06 of the third on a 5-on-3 power play.
Stuart Skinner made 13 saves in the Oilers loss.
