STOCKTON, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks shutout the Calgary Flames in game two of the Western Conference Second Round at Honda Center.
“For them, they probably wanted a split and probably a little confidence coming into this building,” center Ryan Kesler said. “We squashed it.”
Matt Beleskey opened the scoring for the Ducks at 7:27 of the first period. He took a pass from Ryan Kesler and slapped it past Karri Ramo in the net. This would be the only goal until over halfway through the third period.
Hampus Lindholm scored at 11:15, giving the Ducks the 2-0 lead.
“The first 20 minutes we looked like 20 strangers out there,” Flames coach Bob Hartley said. “We just met for the first time. They were all over us.”
Nate Thompson added an empty net goal with 2:16 remaining in the third period.
“It’s not over until it’s over,” defenseman TJ Brodie said. “We’re not going to quit in here. Guys know what we have to do. It’s just a matter of going out and doing it.”
Frederik Anderson was stellar in the Ducks net, stopping all 30 shots on goal and earning the first star of the game honors. Anderson earned his first playoff shutout with this game and continues his post season streak to 6-0.
“I think we’re a really good team and we battle hard for each other,” Andersen said. “Even on a night like today, when we didn’t score as much as we wanted, especially in the first period, we just kept going and kept coming at them. There’s not a lot of teams that can handle that.”
The teams will travel to Calgary for game three on Tuesday.
