Ducks send Kings to sixth straight defeat in 2-1 decision

In Anaheim Friday, Ryan Kesler scored late in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and send the Ducks to a well-played 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

For the Kings it was their sixth straight loss, all in regulation.

Adam Henrique gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead early in the third period.

“Losing streaks are going to happen throughout seasons and it’s how you respond to them,” LA’s Jake Muzzin said. “We’ve got to respond.”

John Gibson made 23 saves to pick up the win for the Ducks who improved to 22-16-9.

Alex Iafallo tied the game shortly after the Ducks took the lead.

Andrew Cogliano returned to the lineup after a two-game suspension that ended his iron man streak at 830 games.

“This was probably one of the tougher parts of my career, but that evened it out for me in terms of support,” Cogliano said.

Cogliano assisted on the game-winner by Kesler.

“I thought we had a good third [period]. I thought we came real hard,” Cogliano said. “[Jacob Silfverberg] made a good forecheck and was able to intercept a pass, and a good tip-in by Kesler.”

Jonathan Quick took the loss on 29 saves.

“We didn’t play particularly well, we were sloppy with the puck, but we’ll take the two points,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said after the win.

The Kings dropped to 24-17-5 with the loss.

“We had opportunities to score but we’re not bearing down on our opportunities. I think even the goal we scored tonight, get a puck to the net and get ugly goals. I mean, we’ve got to start with those and we’ll carry on from there,” Muzzin said.
