“I think tonight was more of a statement,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said. “We’re going to have to approach the game a little differently than we did in the first five or six games.”

The Ducks came out strong in the first period with three goals and outshooting the Coyotes, 21-4.

Kevin Bieksa, Jakob Silfverberg and Rakell scored the first period goals.

“We’re embarrassed, it wasn’t a good period for us,” Arizona forward Jamie McGinn said. “It’s never good when (Shane) Doan has to step up and address the group.”

Antoine Vermette  also scored for the Ducks.

John Gibson made 21 saves for the win.

Louis Domingue started in net for Arizona but was pulled after the first period where he was left on an island by himself in the 21-shot barrage; Justin Peters relieved him the second period.

“It wasn’t just the start, it was the whole game,” Ducks head coach Dave Tippett said. “To be successful in this league, you have to compete at a certain level. If you don’t compete at a certain level, you’ve got no chance to win. That was our group tonight.”

McGinn was the lone Coyotes goal scorer.
