Ducks rally to tie, lose in OT, 5-4, to Nashville Preds keep pace with win, but still need help

In Anaheim, the Ducks rallied with two goals in the third period with less than three minutes left on the game clock to tie the Nashville Predators, 4-4, and force the an extra session.

Troy Terry scored 17:38 to get the Ducks within one at 4-3, and Mason McTavish  scored his second of the game with 22 seconds left on the clock and the extra skater for the tie.,

Nashville responded with 75 seconds gone in extra time for the 5-4 win on a goal from Tommy Novak.

Juuse Saros made 33 saves in the Nashville win.

The Predators improved to 33-24-7 on their fourth win on a five-game roadie.

“It’s tough games, going back to back with the time change and being on a 13-day road trip,” Novak said. “We worked hard and showed resilience and got a lot of points on the road trip, so that was pretty successful.”

The Predators trail the Colorado Avalanche by five points for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.

Seemingly, the Avs have most of the conference chasing them these days.

The Preds took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a marker form Philip Tomasino .

“Trying to focus on the little details, defensively especially,” Tomasino said. “I feel like I’ve generated some good chances. I kind of feel like that’s my game, so hopefully I can continue to keep that going.”

Novak scored his first of the game to extend the lead to 2-0 for Nashville.

The Ducks replied with a pair of goals to tie it, 2-2.

McTavish got his first and Frank Vatrano scored for the tie.

“Cam’s (Fowler) got some good vision, so he found me streaking down the side there,” Vatrano said. “I found a little spot, and it went in.”

Nashville reclaimed the lead on a goal from Kiefer Sherwood  for a 3-2 advantage, and Yakov Trenin t hit for a marker for a 4-2 lead ahead of the Anaheim rally.

“Moving down these last 15-16 games we got left, we’re just trying to create really good habits,” Anaheim forward Max Jones said. “Move onto the next game with a positive attitude.”

Anaheim dropped to 22-35-10, and are 5-1-3 in their last nine.Backroads GuitarsJohn Gibson made 31 saves in the Ducks loss.
