Patrick Eaves has been a terrific pick up for the Anaheim Ducks since his acquisition from the Dallas Stars at the trade deadline.
On Tuesday night, Eaves netted the only goal in the skills competition to complete a
rally by the Ducks to defeat the Nashville Predators, 4-3.
“I was just going to try to get a quick shot off and, hopefully, make it so he has to react to it,” Eaves said of beating Pekka Rinne. “Fortunately, I got it over the pad.”
Twice the Ducks trailed in the game by two goals and rallied
Jonathan Bernier made 24 saves to get the win.
Ryan Getzlaf and Nick Ritchie scored in regulation
“We stuck with it. Earlier in the year, at these times, we’d let things get away and start taking more penalties,” Getzlaf said.
Rickard Rakell tied the game at 3-3 with just under a minute left in regulation.
The Predators had leads of 2-0 and 3-1 on goals from Filip Forsberg, Colin Wilson and Ryan Ellis.
“I thought the first period was a decent period for us,” Predators head coach Peter Laviolette said. “Penalties kind of got in the way in the second period. We lost rhythm a little bit.”
They missed all four chances in the shootout.
“They just played harder, they worked harder, battled harder. We didn’t deserve much out of that game,” Ellis said.

Rinne took the loss on 39 saves.
“We were up 3-1 and we gave them a chance to come back,” Rinne said. “That shouldn’t happen at this point of the season.”
