Ducks rally late, lose in OT to Vegas

In Anaheim, Adam Henrique struck for two goals in the final three minutes of regulation on Sunday night to tie the game, 5-5, with the visiting Vegas Holden Knights.

Fortunately, for Vegas, the Knights’ Shea Theodore struck with 70 seconds left in extra time for a 6-5 win over the Ducks.

“Normally I would like to pass it to other guys who I feel like are better at scoring goals,” Theodore said. “I feel like sometimes you have to take what they give. You know, I just tried to shoot it to a spot where they couldn’t get it.”

Malcolm Subban made 25 saves in the win, the sixth straight for Vegas.

“You have to get to that area to score some goals,” Henrique said. “We did a better job. They do a good job around the net. They’re a deep team, but I thought we did a good job there.”

Nick Ritchie struck twice for the Ducks, and Devin Shore added a single marker.

“We could’ve made a choice when it went to 5-3,” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. “We could’ve chosen to get through it and start thinking about our next game, or we could choose to dig in and fight on. Good on the group for making the right choice.”

William Karlsson picked up a hat trick for the Knights.

“We need [Karlsson] to get a little bit hot here,” Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer said. “He works so hard and he gets so many chances, it was nice to see him get on the board. Hopefully that opens the floodgates.”

Alec Martinez and Patrick Brown (called up from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League) also scored for the Golden Knights.

John Gibson made 22 saves in the loss.

“We’re not really a team that plays a shootout style, but it turned into that tonight,” Ritchie said. “We weren’t on the right side of it, but it was still a good comeback in the third.”
