Ducks rally in third, win in shootout over Carolina

In Anaheim Wednesday, the Ducks found themselves in a offensive outburst with the Carolina Hurricanes that ended in a 6-5 win for the Ducks in a shootout.

Anaheim’s side of the outburst was a three-goal barrage in the third period with Corey Perry netting the game-tying goal to force extra time.Anaheim Ducks

“Every night isn’t going to be pretty,” Perry said. “You’re going to have to win some ugly ones in this league. The League is so tight nowadays. It showed a lot of character to come back. We were down after two and battled with a couple minutes left. Those are big momentum carryovers.”

John Gibson made 29 saves in the winning effort.

Ondrej Kase  got the game-winner in the skills competition.

Stefan Noesen who was called up from San Diego Gulls in the AHL scored his first NHL goal; Andrew Cogliano, Ryan Kesler and Nick Ritchie also scored for the Ducks.

“It’s definitely surreal,” Noesen said. “I’m happy to be here. I’m happy [San Diego] got a win [Tuesday] night and we got a win tonight too.”

The Canes held control of the game until the third period and got two goals from Teuvo Teravainen and single markers from Jay McClement, Sebastian Aho and Brett Pesce.

“At times, I thought we did a real good job at controlling the tempo of the game,” Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said. “We had the puck lots, but we need to do a better job defensively and have a better awareness away from the puck.”

Cam Ward made 33 saves in the loss.

“We got a little too free flowing through the neutral zone and gave up some chances. They have some guys who can certainly put it in,” Ron Hainsey said of the third period effort from Carolina.
