Two struggling teams hooked up in Anaheim Tuesday night as the Ducks hosted the Calgary Flames. Both teams had been seen as contenders in the Pacific Division but thus far neither has shown much life.
On Tuesday, Ryan Getzlaf showed a glimpse what should be in Anaheim as he added five assists to the scoresheet to match a franchise record in the Ducks’ come from behind 5-3 win over the Flames.
“That’s what he brings to the table,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “That’s why he’s played on Team Canada twice and won gold medals. When he plays like that, he’s a force to be reckoned with.”
It was the first time this season the Ducks had rallied for a win after trailing in the first period as they did Tuesday when they trailed 2-0 early.
“It was big to just play and play from behind a little bit,” Getzlaf said. “We had the belief in the locker room that we could come back and make plays and do things and we did a good job with that. We have to be able to maintain that throughout a hockey game where there’s ups and downs.”
The win helped the Ducks improve to 8-10-4 on the season.
Rickard Rakell and Corey Perry each had two goals on the night and Ryan Kesler scored into an empty net.
“It’s a tough lesson,” Flames coach Bob Hartley said. “You are leading 3-2 after the second period, we have the potential to maintain those leads and play the right way with those leads. Tonight we didn’t and we got what we deserved.”
