Ducks’ power play provides 4-1 win over Vancouver

In Anaheim Thursday, the Ducks found their power play magic and struck for three goals with the man advantage i a 4-1` win over the Vancouver Canucks.

It wasn’t all rosy for the Ducks as Ryan Miller left the game in the third period with an injury; he made 13 saves to earn the victory though.

Jakob Silfverberg struck for two goals (one on the power play) and Brandon Montour and Hampus Lindholm each scored on special teams.

“We’ve been practicing (the power play) so much these last couple of days,” Silfverberg said. “We told ourselves we have to go out and play with confidence. It showed.”

Reto Berra finished up the game in the Ducks’ net and made six saves.

“That was huge for our confidence,” Lindholm said. “We have to build on that.”

Sven Baertschi potted the lone goal for the Canucks as they dropped to 8-6-2.

“We weren’t good, it’s pretty simple,” Canucks forward Bo Horvat said. “Too many turnovers, not enough push. We were outplayed tonight.”

Anaheim had gone 14 straight power play chances without a score before Thursday night.

“It’s been a long wait for our power play to awaken. Tonight we were more determined to get pucks back on our entry,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said after the game. “We moved the puck effectively and got the puck directed on net. We were more tenacious and hungrier for the puck. We need to bottle that and maintain that as we go forward.”

Jacob Markstrom made 31 saves in taking the loss.

“This should be a wake-up call for us. We’ve been outplayed a few games in a row here and we need to pick it up. We made them look really good tonight. We got what we deserved,” the Canucks’ Erik Gudbransonsaid after the loss.
