Ducks overcome two deficits, down Rangers in shootout

In Anaheim, the New York Rangers could not hold either a 2-0 lead or 3-2 lead on Saturday afternoon.

Hampus Lindholm struck for his first NHL goal late in the period to tie the game, 3-3, and the Ducks defeated the Rangers, 4-3 in a shootout.

“We stuck with it tonight, and it shows that if you just keep going, night in and night out, game after game, you can get rewarded,” Lindholm said.

John Gibson made 29 saves to get the win.

“You’re down 2-0 and I don’t think there’s four minutes or three minutes gone on the clock yet,” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. “[Gibson] dug in, and right when he needed to be big, he was as big as a house, and that really lifted our bench a number of times.”

Mika Zibanejad struck for two goals for the second straight game.

“This one stings,” Zibanejad said.

Artemi Panarin also scored for the Rangers.

“You always want to give the other team credit, because they picked the pace up, they fed off their second goal,” New York head coach David Quinn said. “I thought we got a little demoralized by the fact that we gave up that goal so early in the period.”

Jakob Silfverberg and Erik Gudbranson scored for the Ducks in regulation.

Silfverberg and Ondrej Kase had strikes in the skills competition.

Henrik Lundqvist made 39 saves in the loss.

“It was disappointing. We had an opportunity to end this on a really positive note,” Quinn said. “We ended it on a disappointing note. Obviously I thought we got off to a good start, we had a really good first period. I thought we really struggled in the second. We were fortunate to get out of that period 2-2. I thought we had a really strong third. Had some great chances in overtime that just weren’t able to capitalize.”
