Ducks move into third in Pacific with win over Stars

The Anaheim Ducks moved back into the third spot in the Pacific Division Friday night with a 5-3 win over the visiting Dallas Stars.

The Ducks are sandwiched between the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings by one point to either side.

Ryan Miller made 23 saves to pick up the win as he starts in place of injured John Gibson.

Jakob Silfverberg, Josh Manson, Andrew Cogliano, Rickard Rakell, and Derek Grant struck for the Anaheim goals.

“The whole team is building that confidence. We’re playing the right way. That’s the biggest key. We’re not cheating. We’re ready. We just need to make sure we have a strong finish tomorrow and see who we get [in the first round],” Silfverberg said.

Jamie Benn, Marc Methot and Radek Faksa scored for the Stars.

“They looked like a team that was getting ready for the playoffs,” Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock said. “That’s what they looked like, and we looked like a team that still was trying, but they had details in their game that we didn’t have.”

Mike McKenna made 28 saves in taking the loss.

“We had a lot of scoring chances ourselves, even ones that didn’t hit the net, but we made mistakes in the wrong area, either in our zone or the offensive zone, and it came back to haunt us,” Hitchcock said.
