The Anaheim Ducks continued their road swing to open the new NHL season and while they lost again, they did manage a point in an overtime loss to the New York Islanders.,
Josh Bailey‘s goal with less than a minute gone in the extra session was the game-winner for the Isles who were opening their home season on Sunday night.
“Three-on-three, you’ve got to play with confidence and try and find a way to get it done,” Bailey said.
The win was also the first of the season for the Isles who improved to 1-2-0 on the young campaign; Brock Nelson and John Tavares also scored for the Isles.
Jaroslav Halak picked up the4 victory for New York on 24 saves.
Ryan Getzlaf scored with about a minute left in regulation to force overtime and get the Ducks the point.
“Obviously we didn’t get the end result we wanted, but we got away with a point there,” Getzlaf said. “I was proud of the way our guys came back and played that second and third period.”
Cam Fowler had the other goal for Anaheim.
“It was important for us (to get a point),” Fowler said. “Obviously, we’re off to a tough start. Things are going to be tough when you start with home openers on the road, and we knew we were up against it to begin with.
“But you take away the first period tonight, I thought we put together a really solid hockey game.”
John Gibson made 27 in the loss.
Anaheim contuse the road swing with a game Tuesday in Newark to face the New Jersey Devils.
