Ducks hand Sharks fifth straight loss

The an Jose Sharks don’t seem to want to clinch a playoff position these days.

On Friday night, the Sharks lost their fifth straight game, this time to the Anaheim Ducks, 4-3, in over time.

Rickard Rakell had two goals in Ducks’ ‘ win.

But they gained a point in the loss to inch closer to the Calgary Flames in the top spot in the Pacific Division.

“The one point is huge, but I thought we played well enough to get the two,” Sharks defenseman Justin Braun said. “They were opportunistic and buried a few of their chances, and you come away with just one.”

Jakob Silfverberg scored at 38 seconds into the extra session to give the Ducks the win.

John Gibson made 23 saves to get the win as the Ducks improved to 31-36-9.

Kevin Labanc, Timo Meier and Braun scored for the Sharks.

“I thought the guys that dressed tonight gave us everything they had,” Sharks head coach Pete DeBoer said. “Showed up, played hard, played well defensively, and created enough opportunities to win a game.”

Rickard Rakell struck twice for the Ducks.

“It feels good when you get to score pretty early in the game,” Rakell said. “After that we kept coming throughout the whole game. We created scoring chances and put pressure on them.”

Adam Henrique also scored for Anaheim.

“We need to do a better job of getting those second and third opportunities on the power play,” Henrique said. “Tonight we did a better job of getting to the corners, winning second pucks back, and that’s where we end up getting some more chances.”
