In Anaheim, Ryan Strome scored with two minutes gone in extra time on Tuesday to give the Ducks a 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
The win snapped an ugly six-game skid.
“I wanted to pass, but the shot was there and I shot it,” Strome said. “Lucky it went in. Nice play by Cam and I thought we possessed the puck well in overtime.”
John Gibson made 34 saves in the Ducks win.
The two teams traded goals through the first two periods, the third was scoreless, forcing the extra session.
Anaheim got goals from Adam Henrique, Max Comtois. and Brett Leason.
“It was a little rocky to start, not going to lie, but obviously getting a goal in the first couple shifts, it’s always a good thing,” Comtois said. “We have a good line on the forecheck, and we saw it on that play. We can create a lot of things from doing that and it paid off.”
Anaheim moved to 7-17-3.
“They’re a quick team,” Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said. “They’re one of the elite teams in the League, and to get two points against a team like that is certainly encouraging.”
Brady Skjei, Sebastian Aho, and Jordan Staal were the Canes’ strikers.
“You know ‘Burnsy,’ he’s going to let it rip however he can,” Staal said. “I was in the right spot at the right time, got a good little stick on it and I’ll take it.”
Carolina dropped to 14-6-6, and are 4-0-4 in their last eight.
“Mentally, you could tell, right from the start of the game, we were not ready to go,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “Not from a lack of effort, just the sharpness was not there.”
Pyotr Kochetkov made 26 saves in the Canes loss.
