Ducks fly into second place in Pacific in 5-2 win

In Anaheim Sunday, Rickard Rakell scored his 29th goal of the season to lead the Ducks past Washington, 5-2.

The win pushed the Ducks into second place in the Pacific Division, two points ahead of the idle Calgary Flames.

Corey Perry scored twice and Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler added goals for the Ducks.

“We definitely played an energized game. You felt it right from the opening faceoff,”  Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle said.

The win was Carlyle’s 400th as an NHL head coach.

“It’s always nice, but it’s a team accomplishment,” Carlyle said of the milestone. “I’ve been lucky to coach good players.”

Jonathan Bernier made 25 saves for the win as he continues to start in place of the injured John Gibson.

The Ducks built a 3-0 lead on goals within a five-minute stretch in the middle frame.

John Carlson and Marcus Johansson scored for Washington to trim the lead.
