In St Louis Sunday, the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Blues, 3-2, on the strength of a power play goal from Andrew Cogliano with just over five minutes left in regulation.
The goal was his 100th for the Ducks.
“I got on the forecheck, and I think someone turned it over,” Cogliano said. “I was able to just get to the net, and [Ryan Kesler] made a quick play at the net, and I was able to bang one in.
“I thought it was an important goal for our team. Whoever scored at that point looked to win the game and to go up 3-2 was important for us. It was nice for me to get one and contribute.”
Jakob Silfverberg and Ben Street also scored for the Ducks.
“We pinpointed a few things that needed to get taken care of,” Cogliano said. “We needed a fix. I thought we did it tonight, for the most part. It was a really gutsy effort by our team, and I thought it was probably the biggest win of the year so far. It was an important game for us. I think it showed.”
Ryan Miller made 29 saves to pick up the win in his first start of the season as the Ducks improved to 4-1-1.
“I felt good as we went. I felt like I was skating a little bit better than in preseason. I’ve been trying to work on that. I was able to stay in the shooting lanes, something else I’ve been working on,” Miller said after the game.
Tyler Bozak and Alexander Steen scored for the Blues.
“We’re doing a good job of getting back when we get down and getting in that lead,” Bozak said. “Unfortunately, we’re not holding it. I think whenever you have that lead, especially in the third, you should be able to hold on. We’ve just got to bear down harder and make some harder plays in the third.”

Chad Johnson made 28 saves in the loss.
“It’s a trend that we obviously have to fix here. … I thought we cut back on the chances-against, obviously the shots-against, but still don’t think that we’re … playing quick enough, whether it’s playing off instincts or just the jump,” Blues head coach Mike Yeo said after the loss.
