Ducks find complete game in win over Vancouver

In Anaheim Sunday night, the Ducks finally got to open their home schedule in hosting the Vancouver Canucks.

On the strength of third period goals from Nick Ritchie and Corey Perry, the Ducks managed a 4-2 win.

“We had the mentality of going to work tonight, and it showed in all three periods,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. “We wanted to make sure we applied as much pressure as we possibly could in all areas of the ice.”Anaheim Ducks

The loss was the first regulation for the Canucks this year.

The Ducks were indeed ready for work as they outshot the Canucks 37-19 and were looking slow after their Saturday night loss in Los Angeles.

“I don’t know if we paid for it a little bit trying to come back against L.A.,” Vancouver head coach Willie Desjardins said. “That’s what I hope it is. I thought we were tired as a group and I thought our ‘D’ were tired.”

Andrew Cogliano and Cam Fowler also scored for the Ducks.

Bo Horvat and Henrik Sedin were the Canucks goal scorers.

John Gibson picked up the win on 17 saves in a game where the Canucks had a hard time across the bench with the defense yielding 37 shots on goal and unable to block many and the offense was mired in sand most of the night.

Ryan Miller was saddled with the loss and made 33 saves in the barrage from the Ducks.

“We weren’t great the first two periods. It wasn’t a good shift and our shifts that followed weren’t great shifts either,” Desjardins said. “Overall, the effort was there again in the third. I liked how the guys came out, we had a chance again in the third, even though we didn’t deserve it.”
