Ducks end skid with OT win over Toronto

In Anaheim, the Ducks ended a seven-game schneid with a 4-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, in extra time.

Trevor Zegras scored twice, including the OT winner.

John Gibson made 32 saves in the win, including a game-saver in the estra session ahead of the Zegras goal.

“I was kind of beat,” Gibson said. “I thought [Marner] was going to go backdoor, so I decided to do whatever I could to keep it out, and luckily enough I did.”

The Maple Leafs have now lost four straight, 0-2-2,.

“We’ve got to get home and get rested,” Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. “Going to get some healthy bodies in our lineup here soon, too, so those kinds of things will give us a boost.”

Toronto got goals from Auston Matthews (power play), Denis Malgin, and Calle Jarnkrok

“We started off a lot worse last year (2-4-1) and everyone tried to put shambles in our brain,” Marner said. “It’s not going to happen with us. We’re getting to go back home now. It’s time to regroup.”

Matthews scored to give the Leafs a 1-0 lead, but Jakob Silfverberg  tied the game, 1-1,

“It’s been a real struggle to get out of our end,” Keefe said.

Malgin restored the lead, 2-1 late in the frame.

“I had to come up with a save to keep the game close,” Gibson said. “If they score that, it’s a three-goal lead. It would be tough to come back, so I’m just trying to do my part and keep the game close.”

Toronto took a 3-1 lead in the third period off a shorthanded strike from Jarnkrok.

“We started off a lot worse last year (2-4-1) and everyone tried to put shambles in our brain,” Marner said. “It’s not going to happen with us. We’re getting to go back home now. It’s time to regroup.”

Zegras and Dmitry Kulikov  scored to get the game tied and force the extra session.

Erik Kallgren made 35 saves in the Leafs loss.
