Ducks end Coyotes’ run

In Glendale, the Anaheim Ducks ended the Arizona Coyotes’ six-game win streak behind Ryan Miller who made 22 saves  for a 3-1 win.

“[Miller] made some big saves at certain points of the game, which were huge,” the Coyotes’ Jason Demers said. “I wish we’d put more shots on him and made him work harder, but we had our chances. We were a little bit too soft tonight.”

The game was 1-1 heading to the third but the Ducks used their power play to break it open with goals from Adam Henrique and Troy Terry with the extra man.

“We were physical on them. We know they’ve got a lot of small skill guys over there, and that seems the way the game is going now,” Anaheim’s Ryan Kesler said. “When we’re playing our game, in the neutral zone, those kids have nowhere to skate. We were finishing checks and being hard on them and trying to intimidate them.”

Jakob Silfverberg also scored for the Ducks and had two points in the win.

“The puck seems to be going in and it’s not just me, I think our team is playing pretty good right now,” Silfverberg said. “Right now we’re getting rewarded and it’s a good feeling. We’ve got some games left and we’re going to try to make the best of it.”

Lawson Crouse scored for the Coyotes late in the first period to tie the game, 1-1.

“We had some plays out there you shake your head at,” Crouse said. “I took a pretty bad penalty and it led to a goal, and then we took another one not too long after that that led to another one and, at this point of the season, you can’t do that.”

“We had some chances and I thought we were good in the first and, after that, it was garbage,” Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet said. “We like what’s been going on around here, but the second and third weren’t good.”

Arizona dropped to 32-29-5.

“We were sluggish, some guys were sluggish and that’s what happens when you’re sluggish and not ready to go,” Tocchet said.

Darcy Kuemper made 28 saves in the loss.

“We had some chances on the power play and we have to be sharper,” Demers said. “It’s hard when you’re losing special teams battles. But you can’t dwell on the games at this point of the season, we’ve got to turn the page.”
