Ducks end Boston run at 18

In Boston Tuesday night, the visiting Anaheim Ducks put up two goals in the first period on the Bruins and then cruised to a 3-1 win.

The loss ended an 18-game point streak for the Bruins.

“You know it was something special,” the Bruins Patrice Bergeron said. “I think it’s been a lot of fun and we’ve got to keep that going. It’s one game, and you’ve got to realize a lot of things that we’ve done [well] during that streak. Just to stay focused and keep pushing each other to be better and be at our best every night and go back to that.”

Adam Henrique and Jakob Silfverberg scored in the opening frame to give the Ducks the 2-0 lead they took through to the end.

“I think everybody knew in here that we had to be on our game tonight in order to come out with a win,” Henrique said. “They’ve been playing great. Even up to a couple minutes to go they’re pushing hard and found a way to get the one there late. So you can’t take your foot off the gas for a second with these guys, the firepower they have.”

John Gibson made 25 saves to get the win but left the game late in the third with an apparent injury.

Ryan Miller made five saves in relief.

Ryan Spooner scored late in the third to break up the shutout bid.

Henrique closed out the scoring with his second goal of the night to seal it.

“I think our starts are something that we talked about a lot over the last month, especially coming out of the [All-Star] break too,” Henrique said. “The way we were playing going into the break, you want to find a way to continue that after a few days off. So I thought we did a good job of that, controlling the play and obviously coming out with the lead.”

Anton Khudobin made 24 saves in taking the loss as Boston dropped to 29-11-8.

“He battled back. A two-goal night, at the end of the day, is giving your team a chance to win. Ultimately, he did that. It’s just early on you don’t like to dig yourself a hole and that’s where we needed one of those saves,” Cassidy said of Khudobin
