Ducks edge Coyotes, 2-1, in extra time Ducks win third straight

In ANaheim, Trevor Zegras’ 18th goal of the campaign gave the Ducks a 2-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.

The winner came with 86 seconds left in extra time.

John Gibson made 33 saves in the win, including a sensational stop on Arizona’s Jakob Chychrun early in the extra session.

“‘Gibby’s’ save was ridiculous,” Zegras said.

The Ducks have won three straight for the first time this season.

“We’re rolling. It feels good,” Zegras said. “Everybody loves to win no matter where you are in the standings or how the season’s going. Winning is the best feeling, and that’s why we all play.”

Anaheim improved to 16-29-5.

Nick Ritchie staked the Coyotes to a 1-0 lead in the first period.

“The more the game went on the better we were,” Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said. “More competitive, more physical, so there were a lot of positives, especially the second half of the game.”

Arizona dropped to 16-28-6.

Anaheim’s Max Jones tied the game, 1-1, in the middle frame.

“When I get my heart rate going and I get into the game, I find it a lot easier to just play hockey,” Jones said. “You’re not thinking as much, you’re not worried about making mistakes.”

The Ducks were coming off a 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

“That game against Colorado was a big win,” Jones said. “We’re finding a little groove right now. We’ve just got to keep on moving forward with it. With the (All-Star) break here and coming back out of it, it’s something we have to remind ourselves of once we get back from the break. Just keep playing the same way.”

Connor Ingram made 43 saves, an NHL career-high, in the Coyotes loss.

“He’s playing very well,” Tourigny said of Ingram. “He was definitely our best player tonight. I think he made key saves. It’s good for him. He’s a great person. I’m so happy for him.”
