Ducks drop second game on road trip, 3-2

In Pittsburgh Saturday, the Anaheim Ducks found themselves in a scrap with the Penguins and it did not go well.

Phil Kessel scored in the middle frame to give the Pens a 3-1 lead and they coasted the Anaheim Ducksrest of the way en route to a 3-2 home win.

Anaheim started off season acquisition, Jonathan Bernier, in net and he made 42 saves in a barrage of offense from the Pens and loss of defense from the Ducks in front of him.

“I thought we got stronger as the game went on,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. “I think, over time here, we’ve gotten a better understanding of how to play in one-goal games.”

Marc-Andre Fleury picked up the win on 33 saves.

“Tonight we chased the game for the better part of it,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. “We had a pretty good game going until about the 13-minute mark and they seemed to get back in it with their speed. … Our execution level has got to go up.”

Corey Perry got the Kessel goal back midway through the middle period but the Ducks were unable to make any push in the final frame.

Cam Fowler scored the Ducks other goal on a two-man advantage penalty to tie the game at one all in the first period.

The Ducks have lost both games so far on their season-opening road trip.

“We haven’t talked about last year at all. This is a new beginning, a new season, and you have to go out and prove yourself all over again,” Perry said after the game.
