In Anaheim Wednesday night, Corey Perry scored twice (including his 300th career) but the Ducks fell to the Edmonton Oilers in overtime, 4-3.
The game went back and forth with the Ducks taking one goal leads only to see the Oilers respond with a tying marker.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’s goal midway through the third period knotted it at three all and forced the extra session.
“I thought our performance was resilient, it was strong,” Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. “This is not an easy building to play in and it’s a team that’s really starting to come on strong. But we held our own.”
Former Oilers Shawn Horcoff also scored for Anaheim, his 500th career point.
“It’s a huge accomplishment, especially in the best league in the world,” Perry said. “It’s a little frustrating when you don’t get the win and you get a milestone, but you’ve just got to worry about the two points.”
Leon Draisaitl and Oscar Klefbom added regulation goals for Edmonton.
Teddy Purcell picked up the game-winner just over a minute into the extra session.
“In years past, we’ve got down and then it’s just, that’s it,” Hall said. “We’re starting to believe in our game a little bit. We’re not a finished product by any means, but it seems like we’re starting to kind of trust each other and believe in what we’re doing.
“We’re not going to run a team like Anaheim out of the building, but we can play faster than them and try to use that to our advantage.”
Anders Nilsson made 34 saves for the win and Frederik Andersen took the loss on 23 saves.
