Ducks drop 4-3 decision to Flames, on skills

In Anaheim, the visiting Calgary Flames continued their road dominance with a4-3 win over the Ducks after the skills competition, on Friday Friday night.

Trailing 0-1, the Flames scored three straight in the middle frame for 3-1 lead.

Sean Monahan,Blake Coleman, and Elias Lindholm were the Calgary strikers.

“If it’s not coming, if it’s not working, you’ve just got to grind through it,” Monahan said. “You don’t want to get frustrated because then you lose other aspects of your game. You’ve just got to stick with it and build your confidence up slowly.”

Dan Vladar made 31 saves in the Flames win.

Calgary improved to 15-4-5.

Sonny Milano gave the Ducks the lead in the second period.

Rickard Rakell scored before the end of the middle frame to get the Ducks within one, at 3-2.

“The second period, we got away from our game, and that’s also a reminder too, that if we want to be an elite team, we have to play a certain way,” Eakins said. “If we’re not going to do it to a man, then we’re going to very quickly get into trouble. I think our group has learned enough lessons, and it’s time to take another step forward.”

Vinni Lettieri forced extra time in the match when he tied the game, 3-3, in the third period.

“We have some room for improvement still and that’s a good feeling to have,” Rakell said. “We played good so far, but we have another level.”

The Ducks dropped to 13-8-4.

Matthew Tkachuk was credited with the deciding goal in the skills competition.

John Gibson made 33 saves in the Anaheim loss.

“That is a big, strong, hard hockey team,” Eakins said of the Flames. “You can see why they’re winning a lot of games.”
